Quick DIYs are the best agreed? I whipped these beautiful ombre painted blocks one evening while watching Criminal Minds with my hubby. It took me about 45 minutes but keep in mind that’s painting and watching my show at the same time!
I saw some cute painted blocks on Pinterest and, like all my projects, was inspired! I wanted to do my own spin on some baby blocks and decided to go with an ombre effect!
Jamie’s really been diggin’ them so far, his favorite is for me to build them up just so he can knock them down. We play a game where I see how fast I can build them up into a pyramid before he can destroy the whole thing. He is usually the winner. 😉
Grab your little one, take a trip the the craft store, then you too can play the race against tiny destoyer hands!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Wooden blocks
- Sandpaper (to make them smooth for tiny hands)
- Painters tape
- Acrylic Paint (one white, one color, one black)
- Paint brush
- Something to mix paint on ( I just covered a plate in tin foil)
First, sand down all your block’s edges so that they are smooth then whipe off any of the dust particles.
Next, tape around the parts of the blocks you want to leave unpainted. What ever you dont cover in tape will be painted. I just went random on this and made whatever shapes came into my head!
Take your color paint and start painting your first block, after each block add some white paint to the color and mix so the color is lightened. This is what will give you the ombre effect, I wanted mine to go from a dark blue grey to almost white so to get my first darkest color, I mixed a little black with the color instead of white.
When you are finished painting, take off your tape and let your blocks dry. I just let them sit over-night and you’re done!
Start building and destroying with your little one, or even just use them as a cute decorative piece in their room! If you never want to miss a project, sign up for our newsletter in the side bar! Happy building! [themify_icon icon=”fa-heart-o” link=”http://”] Cassie Jean
