Why share my blogging income?
Some people may think it’s odd that I share my income online but income reports are why I even started blogging!
My family had just moved to Kentucky so my husband could attend law school while I stayed home to take care of my baby boy Jamie when I read a post from Rosemarie of The Busy Budgeter titled: “How I Made $12,484.68 in One Month as a Stay at Home Mom“. Obviously, as a new SAHM myself, I was hooked!
If Rosemarie had never shared her income report, I would have never started a blog and would have continued to believe the lie that I was not interesting enough to be a successful blogger.
So I share my income to pay it forward and help other mommas out there realize that they can do it too!
If you’ve ever wanted to start a profitable blog it isn’t too late! Check out my step by step guide to starting a profitable blog here and start making money while in your PJs!

My Pageviews this month went way up! My free printable habit trackers were crazy popular which I think was because of the New Year and the craze to work on yourself and the habit trackers are a great way to visually see and track your progress. Get them here.
Other than the skyrocket on my habit trackers, everything else was had some steady growth which is pretty average around here.
What worked this month:
EBA:
If you didn’t know, I am working my way through an amazing blogging course, Elite Blog Academy, which is actually the reason I am making any money right now and I haven’t even made it to the monetization module yet!
I started EBA in February 2017 and have been slow as molasses, and have procrastinated my way through it. However, I have been diving back in since the New Year and have a goal to finish the course by August! Wish me luck.
If you are serious about blogging I would highly suggest investing in EBA. It’s pretty expensive but the strategies and information in the course is invaluable! Pretty much if you could get an MBA for blogging, the curriculum would be EBA.
The course is only open once a year but you can get on the waitlist here, and fair warning, the price has substantially gone up every year so the sooner you invest the less you’ll have to pay!
Facebook Ads:
Back in December Facebook gave me $30 to put towards an ad to try them out and oh baby, I’m hooked! My first Facebook ad reached 6,142 paid and 698 organically (so from tags and shares) and 136 paid link clicks (people clicking through to my site) and at this time I had only 147 facebook page likes so those numbers were pretty amazing!
Since I have run a few more ads and have seen my page likes grow around 30 likes a week with no other Facebook strategy other than pushing my posts there so I’m really loving Facebook ads.
Monthly Giveaways:
In the New Year I decided to grow my social platforms and give back to my followers I was going to do a giveaway every month on my Facebook Page and Instagram account. I started by giving away two Google Home Minis. One to giveaway on Facebook and one for Instagram and boy did people love it! You can like my page here and follow me here.
I ran my giveaway for 2 weeks, each post had over 2k entries and comments and added 246 likes to my Facebook page and added 306 followers on Instagram. I was excited to see people react to the giveaway, and since I am doing monthly giveaways these new followers have an incentive to keep following my pages.
We’ll see how people react to February’s giveaway!
What didn’t work:
Monthly Giveaway Mistakes:
My first big giveaway was awesome but I definitely made a few mistakes that ended up costing me!
Mistake #1:
The first mistake I made for my giveaways was not giving away something more targeted towards my ideal audience.
My target audience is young trendy momtrepreneurs and as I build my social media I am trying to attract those people because those are the types of people I can SERVE. So, although I know my target audience would love a Google Home Mini, I didn’t take into account that everyone else on social media would as well!
So yes, I grew my followings but a large amount of those followers are not my ideal audience so I cannot serve them as I can my young trendy momtrepreneurs. And that is the point of social media as a brand and online business is to create a connection with my tribe and serve them better so I can create relationships and have loyal raving fans, not just have a big number under my name.
Mistake #2:
Mistake number two was running my giveaway for too long.
January’s giveaway ran for 2 weeks and I feel like I should have only done 1. I cumulated 90% of my followers and likes in that first week and then felt like the interest just died. I felt it wasn’t worth the few extra followers to keep the giveaway open so long.
Mistake #3:
I opened up my giveaway to Canada!
Okay, I love me my Canadians, I mean, my moms from Alberta but the Google Home Mini’s were $50 and they cost me $50 to ship EACH!
Yes, what are the odds both of the mini’s where won by Canadians? Well, they were and it ended up costing me more to ship them than it did to buy them. Now I feel bad for all my new Canadian follows because from now on all giveaways are going to be U.S. only!
Goals for February:
- Crack 1000 followers/likes on Facebook and Instagram
- Finish EBA unit 5
- Create content for the entire quarter – right now I’m barely a month ahead
- Work smarter not harder – I have been getting so distracted and procrastinating

This is a great post! Thank you for being transparent and giving back. I’m a couple of decades past your target audience, but hoping to reach the hoal of not having to work fulltime outside home to help put our daughter yhrough college without accumulating student debt. Hoping to get started…

Hi Cassie, great post. Very inspiring! I have yet to start monetizing my website but your posts are definitely encouraging. One question: Which pluggins/widgets do you use for your “shareables” on the sidebar and for the “You Might Also Like” to share similar posts at the end of each new blog post? Thank you so much!
Cassie Scroggins
sarahHey Sarah, first let me tell you your blog is GORGEOUS! I love your web design! Anyway, the share icons are from the plugin sumome from sumo. They did a rebrand a little while ago so I’m not totally sure if the plugin is still called sumome or if it’s just sumo now. Either way it’s the plugin with the crown icon like you see at the bottom of the share icons.
And the “you might also like” posts is actually just a part of my theme so I don’t have a plugin that does that but the plugin “Related posts” does something similar!

Good information!!! Thanks for sharing! Do you have any advice for using MediaVine?
