Why Share My Blogging Income?
Money is one of those topics that you just don’t talk about right? Along with politics and religion, money isn’t something you usually talk about in a casual conversation. So why do I share my blogging income online?
- If other bloggers hadn’t done it, I wouldn’t have started my blog.
- I want to pay it forward and show others who had no idea that blogging as a profession is possible that you can make money blogging.
- Sharing my income monthly allows me to show others that the money doesn’t come overnight. (So don’t be discouraged!)
- It allows my readers to follow along on my blogging journey and see what’s working and what isn’t and can learn from my mistakes!
A bit about me:
I started my blog in September 2016 after reading a fellow blogger (and stay at home mom’s) income report and I just knew if she could do it, so could I!
In December that year, I invested in myself and took the blogging course Elite Blog Academy. However, I put the course on the back burner till December 2017 when I decided to get serious, start the course over and soon that next month I doubled my blogging income from about $200 a month to over $500 in January and I’m still only halfway through the course!
Elite Blog Academy is the reason I am making the money right now and I JUST got to the monetization module! Here’s the thing though EBA enrollment is only open ONCE A YEAR and It just so happened to be open this week for 2018 (March 5 – 9th) so you’ve gotta get in now or wait a whole year to get in! Enroll here! Missed it? Get on the waitlist here!
Starting a blog and investing in EBA was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself and when you can start a blog for only $3.95 a month why wouldn’t I? And now I am a stay at home mom getting paid to blog in my PJs, I mean, I’m living the dream!

On to the Report!
Income From February:
*Note I only count income I actually received, not revenue I earned but hasn’t been paid out yet.
Affiliates: $129.94 (Amazon affiliates)
Etsy store sales: $9.20 (Digital Prints and Bibs) Check it out here!
Ads: $429.36 (Mediavine)
Total: $568.50 – Up $25.85 from January
February Traffic and Stats:
February Pageviews: 82,556 (up from 71,250 in January)
Pinterest Followers: 1,550 (+80)
Instagram Followers: 847 (+75)
Facebook Likes: 1,002 (+134)
Email list: 990 (+434)
My Most Popular Posts From January:
- How to Easily Take Photos of Yourself For Your Instagram or Blog
- Daily Habit Trackers Free Printables
- What I Use To Balayage My Own Hair
- 5 Step Messy Top Knot
- DIY The Best LipSense Remover Scrub + LipSense Review
My most popular posts stayed pretty much the same which I expected. However, my How To Easily Take Photos of Yourself for Your Instagram or Blog Post from January went viral and knocked those habit trackers right out of the number one spot by A LOT! That post alone got over 18k pageviews in February! Woohoo!
That made up for the fact that the craze for the habit trackers triggered by the new year has significantly decreased. However, the habit trackers still sent me about 4k pageviews.
What Worked This Month:
Email Opt-ins:
Midway through February I finally got serious and published 2 email opt-ins focused towards bloggers to grow my email list.
My opt-ins where:
*For those of you who are brand new to blogging, an email opt-in is a freebie you offer to your readers in exchange for their email. They want your freebie, so they give you their email and join your email list.*
I had never offered an email incentive before so those on my email list prior to this were people who just wanted updates on new posts when they come out.
The nice thing about offering an email opt-in incentive is I was able to target specific readers on my site and in doing so, I have a better understanding of how to accurately serve them. Meaning those who signed up for my email incentives I know are either new (Start a Blog Checklist emails) or current bloggers (Monthly Blog Planner emails) which means I’m not going to be sending them an email about a new hair tutorial I have coming up.
Anyway, I published my opt-ins February 15th and in only 13 days already gathered 434 new emails and new bloggers to serve! So I’m pretty happy with my results thus far!
I’m hoping to soon get an opt-in published specifically for my hair lovers out there, so stay posted on that!
Social Locker To Grow My Facebook Page:
Social Locker is a plugin for WordPress that helps you grow your social media accounts by locking your content, like a freebie, until the reader likes, shares, +1’s or tweets your page.
So at the end of the month, I decided to lock my popular Habit Trackers requiring my reader to like my Facebook page to get access to them and it’s been great!
I’ve used Social locker before but they started getting buggy and wouldn’t work on mobile so I ended up removing the plugin. I decided to give them another chance after they updated the plugin and haven’t had an issue yet, but it’s only been a few days so we’ll see how it goes. I love the idea of this plugin as long as it works the way it’s supposed to and it shows my readers that I am waiting to serve them not just on the blog but on my social media accounts too where I host monthly giveaways! What Didn’t Work:
Etsy:
In January I got pretty lucky with my Etsy shop. I usually don’t promote the shop all that much just a bit on Pinterest and in January I had a lot of purchases while in February I only had 2. So I’m going to add just a little more time in my schedule for Etsy.
Getting Ahead:
I really stunk at getting ahead and staying focused this month, I haven’t really started on April’s content yet. Brian’s school load this semester is really heavy which means Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday he is only home for about 2 hours during the day.
And because I am trying to focus on hanging out and playing with Jamie while he is awake, I don’t have much time to get stuff done during those days. Then when Thursday and Friday roll around all I want to do is actually spend time with Brian. These are all just excuses of course, I can always make time to get things done I just need to do it!
Besides that, everything thing went really well last month!
How I did – Goals For February:
- Crack 1000 followers/likes on Facebook and Instagram – Made it for Facebook with 1,002 likes but didn’t for Instagram with 847.
- Finish EBA unit 5 – Check! I finished EBA unit 5 & 6 this month! #OverAchiever
- Create content for the entire quarter – Didn’t make it, I’m still only a month ahead.
- Work smarter not harder – I did a lot better than January but still had a more procrastinating than I would like.
Goals For March:
- Finish EBA unit 7
- Hit 1,200 Facebook likes
- Hit 1000 Instagram Followers
- Grow Email list to 1300
- Invest in Jenna Kutcher’s Instagram Lab + Stay up with it week to week. (I’ve been wanting to try this course for a while)
Right now I am focusing on maintaining quality content and growing my platforms rather than building my income right now. My blog is bringing in enough that I can pay to run the blog with lots of extra to reinvest into it so I’d rather focus on serving my readers than making a profit.
